Hmm, she looks like a steampunk character and it's refreshing to see one that doesn't wear goggles, as most of them do nothing. I think the design of her dress is pretty neat with the shawl thing at the top, but what is up with her... glove? Why do they cover only her thumbs? That seems mighty pointless to me to wear something that covers only one finger.
I may be mistaken, but it looks like it was modeled after a character and armor from Final Fantasy XIV. The gloves are called "ringbands" and are..well pretty much as odd as you'd think. The coat is the uniform of one of the three Grand Companies, with a skirt underneath. I like the color here much better than the color in-game though!
gloves like this exist. Thumbs are covered more often due to a high chance of blisters forming due to how people often grasp things. The reason fingers may wish to be exposed is entirely for dexterity.
Not saying we don't. I'm saying I've even used gloves like this due to the thum protecting purpose and for the exposed fingers when doing wiring. I'm sure they have alot of applications, And by the way, fingerless gloves are actually more for grip, insulation and then dexterity form all digits.
I suppose they could also protect from palm blisters. These thumb gloves are specifically for protection from thumb blisters during grasping or hammering, or when pricking and you need a safe base when you hold something. Tonnes of applications.
